Obituary for Ernest A. "Ernie" Karmin

Ernest A. “Ernie” Karmin, age 91, of Winnetka, born in Berlin, Germany, immigrated to the United States in 1937 and settled in Hyde Park. Served honorably in the U.S. Navy as an underwater demolition specialist. Ernie was a proud member of the Chicago Board of Trade for 70 years. In addition, he was the former Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Mt. Sinai Hospital, and an ardent supporter of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and the Jewish United Fund, amongst other important charitable causes; beloved husband for 62 years of Harriet, nee Rosen; loving father of Mark (Judy), Jon (Deborah), Tony (Ellen) and James; adored Grandpa and Papa of Michael (Brooke), Joseph (Dana), Alison, Zachary, Sam, Sarah and Danny; proud great grandfather of Myles and Noah; cherished brother of the late Kurt (Lonny); fond brother-in-law of Nicky (late Hal) Jackson and the late Norman (Adrienne) Rosen and the late Arnold (Jeanie) Rosen. Service Wednesday, 2:00 p.m. at Am Shalom, 840 Vernon Ave., Glencoe. Interment Private. The family will be receiving condolences Wednesday, 4:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Northmoor Country Club, 820 Edgewood Rd., Highland Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Mt.
