The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Ernest Karmin can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Betty Heycke

In 1952 Ernie Karmin signed the papers which enabled an 18 year old German boy ,Dieter Heycke,to come to the United States..The Karmin family paid for his trip by sea. They arranged for German-speaking friends to meet the boat and transport him to Chicago. They took him into their home and gave him a job , Ernie and Kurt were his big brothers and mentors. It is with sadness and a great deal of gratitude for his life that we mourn Ernie’s passing. Ernie was truly part of our family. Betty and Dieter Heycke
