For over three decades, Irwin has been serving Chicago's Jewish families during their greatest times of need. His passion for making a difference in people’s lives and his drive to profoundly impact the local Jewish community is what led him to the calling of funeral service. In 1984, Irwin began his career as a funeral director at Weinstein Family Services where he was mentored by Myron, Ted, Joel W. Weinstein, and Norman Cutler, legends of the Jewish funeral community. Irwin’s tenure to Jewish funeral service is a tribute to them. When their firm was sold to an out-of-town, corporate conglomerate (a too common trend in the industry), Irwin saw a growing need in the area for Jewish family run funeral homes. So, in 2002 he founded the Goldman Funeral Group with a simple philosophy that the name on the sign should match the names of the directors you work with. Under Irwin’s guidance, Goldman Funeral Group has maintained the highest standards of service, treating each of our families as if they were our own. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Macalester College, received his Master’s Degree in Hospital Administration from Washington University in St. Louis, and obtained his funeral director license through Worsham College of Mortuary Science.
It brings Irwin great pride that his son, Benjamin, has joined the Goldman Funeral Group as a licensed funeral director. Goldman Funeral Group is proudly the only multi-generational, family-owned funeral service with full time funeral directors serving the Jewish community in Northbrook, Highland Park, Buffalo Grove, and other surrounding towns near Chicago.
